During the Great Depression, the late Cardinal Mundelein became famous for building many of Chicago’s most beautiful religious edifices. Madonna Della Strada is a shot of Visine for architecture admirers who have grown weary of our area’s abundant neoclassical churches. The nave’s interior is done up in a dignified, simplified style of overlapping stone accordion arches making the sanctuary one large modern vestibule, and blessing it with brilliant acoustics.
