In the last year, no individual or group has come close to the range or accomplishment of a little collection of art performers who call themselves the Industry of the Ordinary. Made up of Adam Brooks and Mathew Wilson, as stated on the business cards they handed out for Project #11 state, they are champions. Refusing to treat art performance as some minor province of the mind, they have illustrated an outlook on the craft as a form of liberated living. Whether hauling an ice sculpture of the Ten Commandments down Michigan Avenue on a hot summer day and serving onlookers the melted proceeds, dressing up and parading around as Old God and Young God or posting neon signs saying “vote for me” in Tudor house windows during the presidential election of ’04, each successive project has garnered them much-deserved recognition and success. Check out their website at www.industryoftheordinary.com and when they’ve got something planned, make sure to go.
