Best evidence that the investigations at city hall are getting to the mayor
Queen`s Landing
You can love or loathe his leadership style, but no one can debate the beautification of the greater downtown area, along with the strides in pro-environment initiatives like bicycling and green buildings that have marked the legacy of Richard M. Daley. Which is what made the fiasco, of closing the Queen’s Landing crossing of Lake Shore Drive off to pedestrians in order to speed cars along a bit faster, utterly perplexing. Never mind the pedestrian deaths of past and future that led to the installation of the traffic light less than two decades ago. Never mind the bizarrely anti-progressive message the move makes as it inconveniences pedestrians and bicyclists. No, what really blows us away is the godawful ugly fence that has been placed all along the park to prevent crossings. So ugly does this make what should be one of the city’s most beautiful spots, adjacent to the world-famous Buckingham Fountain, that we have to assume the mayor simply wasn’t consulted. We’d hate to be the knucklehead who made this decision once the mayor gets a look.
